Rothen makes Bastia departure

Bastia have confirmed the departure of veteran midfielder Jerome Rothen.

The former France international, 35, had expressed his desire to leave the club following a disagreement with coach Frederic Hantz, which stemmed from Rothen being overlooked for the captaincy at the start of last season.
The resolution of his contract today, however, was attributed to the Parisian wanting to leave Corsica and be nearer his family.
A statement on Bastia's official website read: "After two exceptional seasons in the blue shirt, Jerome Rothen and Sporting Club de Bastia have ended their collaboration by mutual agreement, even though there was a year left on the player's contract.
"Having played in 65 games and been a major part of promotion to Ligue 1, the Chatenay-Malabry native wanted to be nearer to his family. The club hope to see him again very soon on the pitches of Ligue 1."
Rothen has been linked with Ligue 2 Auxerre and Ligue 1 Reims, both situated within around 90 minutes of Paris, as well as Lorient and Nantes on the extreme west of the mainland.
Nantes were hit with a FIFA transfer embargo for this summer and the January window over the signing of Guinea striker Ismael Bangoura from Al Nasr, although they appealed to the Swiss federal court.
